Patch Collection
With home at its heart, this versatile collection is made up of beautifully puzzled together sections of solid wood. Designed to be positioned in any living space, from kitchen to entrance hall to bathroom. The collection consists of a cabinet, a shelf and a mirror.
We challenged ourselves to create beautiful objects for the home, each from one singular timber plank. Very often the design process begins by thinking about the form or the function of what we want to create, then sourcing the timber accordingly. This approach has a tendency to produce a large amount of waste material, as the starting material is often oversized.
To design a collection that limits waste material, whilst celebrating the beauty in the offcuts, we decided to look to our existing woodpile as a starting point; various sections of wood in many shapes and sizes just waiting to become something. After sketching out outlines of ideas on paper we took to the workbench and started to make cuts, which inevitably produced off-cuts. These smaller pieces of wood, often discarded as waste, informed each next step in the design process. If an off-cut was too short it was patched together with other sections of wood to make up the desired length, preventing these shorter, often unused pieces from going to waste.
The outcome is a series of unique and useful pieces of furniture that can take on many roles, from storing your bathroom essentials to becoming the perfect entrance hall shelf to throw your keys down onto after a hard day, or store away neatly in a small but perfectly formed drawer if you feel that way inclined!
