Khaya Cabinet II

Khaya Cabinet II, new new piece created for PAD London 2024, a continuation of Gareth’s work in this material, utilising a limited supply of Khaya Mahogony, a by-product of the musical instrument industry. This latest ambitious work utilises the twisted and warped wood saved from destruction. Diligently stitched together to celebrate the incredible fractures and cracks. Hand sanded, scribed and mitred along compound curves. A twisted carcass, hand-crafted, harnessed and expertly sculpted using traditional techniques, highlighting the importance of reuse and sustainability in modern design practices. This spectacular chest of drawers straddles the space between design function, craft practice and artistic intent.
